If you’re into nourishing your skin with natural ingredients and looking for a cost-effective ‘DIY’ face cream, then try this Anti-Aging Essential-Oil Improved Face Cream on for size. Essential oils can provide a range of benefits and are recognized for their anti-aging properties. When I learned of the benefits of certain essential oils, I decided to mix some into my face cream, and it immediately gives my complexion a youthful glow. The oils I added to my face cream include:

  • Frankincense
  • Rosehip Seed Oil
  • Geranium
  • Ylang Ylang

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense is highly regarded for its anti-aging abilities. As we age our skin cells don’t regenerate as quickly as in our youth, but Frankincense promotes the growth of new cells in our skin. One study showed Frankincense reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks, which may provide the same benefit for fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, another study demonstrated that frankincense may reduce the appearance of sunspots.

Frankincense Oil May Help:

  • Regenerates new cells
  • Reduces the appearance of scars
  • Reduces sunspots

Rosehip Seed Essential Oil

Rosehip seed oil is derived from rose plants and protects our skin from signs of aging because it contains Vitamins A and C – two necessary vitamins to produce collagen. It contains essential fatty acids which improves hydration of our skin and improves blood flow to our skin, which results in a youthful complexion and the appearance of smoother skin. It supports smooth skin by reducing eczema, acne scarring and age spots.

Rosehip Seed Oil May Help:

  • Promotes collagen production
  • Hydrates skin
  • Reduces dark spots

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium is considered an anti-aging powerhouse because it is antioxidant rich and fights free radicals. We don’t like free radicals because they cause our skin to lose elasticity and promotes wrinkles – even promotes aging spots and blemishes – no thanks!

If you suffer from acne breakouts, eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis geranium has your back as it is known to heal the skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. If you have oily prone skin geranium will induce a youthful appearance because it reduces the size of pores.

Geranium Oil May Help:

  • Fight free radicals
  • Reduce inflammation

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang Ylang improves the elasticity of your skin by promoting collagen production and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Ylang Ylang additionally is known to fight free radicals. If you have oily skin I would not recommend using ylang ylang because it stimulates sebum production. However if you have dry skin or live in areas with cold weather, ylang ylang could bring the moisturize your skin needs.

Ylang Ylang Oil May Help:

  • Promote production of collagen
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Fight free radicals

Purchasing Tips

Read the label and ensure blends are made with 100% organic cold-pressed essential oils.

Application

In order to test your skin’s reaction to a particular essential oil, it is best to test a small amount on your skin 24 hours before using larger amounts of oils, that way you can determine whether you will experience irritation or even allergic reactions.

I add 5-7 drops of each and mix your face cream with the oils. After you no longer smell the oils or are able to visibly notice the oil residue, top off the cream by adding the drops again.

When applying essential oils directly to your skin it is safe to dilute them. Carrier oils help dilute the potency of essential oils in order to protect your skin. With this method carrier oils are not necessary as the lotion itself dilutes the essential oils. If you choose to not add these oils to your face cream, carrier oils include coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil or avocado oil.
