This is one of the most nourishing hair masks you will use! The following day after I used it my friends always thought I had just got my hair done because it was shiny, smooth and brought out the blonde in my hair. It contains simple ingredients that you typically have in your cupboards and each of the ingredients brings their unique benefit to the table.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp coconut oil (2 tbsp if you have long hair)

1 tbsp olive oil (2 tbsp if you have long hair)

  1 egg

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a hair strengthening powerhouse. It nourishes and moisturizes the hair from within because it has the ability to penetrate inside the hair shaft and has been shown to reduce the loss of protein for damaged hair. Since it preserves protein, coconut oil is particularly beneficial for dry, brittle and damaged hair because it promotes strong hair and reduces split ends.

Olive Oil

Olive oil has been used in skin and hair cosmetics for years in a variety of cultures. Olive oil helps to reduce free radical causing oxidative damage that can damage the scalp and the hair because it is packed full of potent polyphenols. In fact, it has antioxidant properties higher than vitamin E. While keeping your scalp and hair healthy olive oil conditions the hair resulting in shiny and soft strands.

Egg

The protein and vitamins in the egg will strengthen damaged hair. Research has shown that the properties in eggs boost hair growth and the protein in eggs provide sustenance to damaged hair and help to repair split ends.

How to Apply Hair Mask

  1. Melt the coconut oil if it is not soft.
  2. Mix together all the ingredients until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Untangle your hair with a comb.
  4. Massage it into your scalp and to the ends of your hair, then use the rest of the mixture everywhere else.
  5. Wrap your hair in a bun and cover it with a shower cap or plastic bag to seal in the heat.

You can leave the mask on either for a half hour, or an hour or for an ultra-conditioning effect leave it on for a couple more.

When the time of your mask is up, hop in the shower. Before rinsing out your hair, apply shampoo onto your scalp and then add a small amount of water before you get your hair completely wet. Take your time lathering the shampoo into your hair as much as you can to break down the oil before rinsing it out.

To wash this mask out make sure to use cold or lukewarm water, using hot water will cook the egg and that is not something you want to deal with in your hair! Shampoo and rinse twice to ensure you’ve washed out all the oil. Don’t be surprised if you lose a lot more hair than you typically do in the shower – don’t worry, it’s normal
